Texas State Trooper Dies in Solo-Vehicle Accident


A Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Trooper died late Saturday night after he was involved in a solo-vehicle accident.  

Trooper Jeffrey Nichols, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene after his patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree. Trooper Nichols had been with the department since 2011 and was working in the town of Paris, north of Dallas. 

He is the 218th trooper from the Texas Department of Public Safety to die in the line of duty since 1837.
