Park Forest police officer Tim Jones, critically injured in a shooting on Saturday morning, remains in critical but stable condition.
Officer Jones, 24, has been with the police force for just under a year. He was met by a fleeing gunman after responding to a call of a possible home break-in.
Authorities said that the next 24-hours are critical to Officer Jones' recovery.
The Park Forest police department put out a statement on Facebook, reading in part, "A Park Forest Police Officer is with him and his family 24 hours a day. That's the thing about this job: When tragedy strikes, it's not just a job, it's family."
The statement continued, "Again, thank you for your support. It means more than you will ever know, and please continue to keep Officer Jones and his family in your thoughts and prayers."
