A veteran Massachusetts State Trooper has died after being struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on Wednesday afternoon.
Trooper Thomas Clardy, 44, was conducting a traffic stop when a Nissan Maxima traveling at a high rate of speed crossed over four lanes of traffic and struck Trooper Clardy's patrol vehicle.
Trooper Clardy died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The driver of the Maxima, identified as David Njuguna, also suffered serious injuries. It is being reported that Njuguna had previously had his driver's license suspended for failing to submit to a breath test. It was reinstated in 2014.
Trooper Clardy was with the State Police since 2005 and leaves behind a wife and six children.
