NEVER FORGET: Loudon County Officer Shot, Killed on This Day in 2004

Loudon County (TN) Sheriff's Deputy Jason Michael Scott was shot and killed 12 years ago today.

Deputy Scott had responded to a call of domestic violence in a rural area of Loudon County when he was shot multiple times after exiting his patrol car.

The suspect, 16-year old Michael Harvey, had been beating his mother with a post when he turned and fired on Deputy Scott. Harvey was allegedly angry with his mother over her refusal to allow him to drive to school that day.

Deputy Scott was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries. Harvey was subsequently found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a 28-hour standoff.

Deputy Scott was 24-years old at the time of his death and had been a police officer for 3 years.
