A Denver police officer is recovering after being shot while responding to a burglary call on Tuesday. One suspect in the case was shot and killed and another taken into custody.

Officer Rachel Eid, well known in the department, was shot in the foot as she and other officers became involved in a gunfight with 28-year old suspect Gerardino Gonzales. Gonzales was shot and died on scene.

Alfonso Padilla, 26, was also arrested. It was unclear what, if any, relationship Padilla had with Gonzales although he could be heard after the shooting yelling that police had killed his "brother."

Officer Eid was released from a local hospital on Tuesday night following treatment.
