A Mississippi police officer is dead and three others injured after a shootout with an alleged kidnapping suspect early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred in Tishomingo county near the Alabama border.
The officers were attempting to make entry into a home where a man had held his wife and child hostage.
When officers entered the home they were allegedly fired upon. The suspect was killed in the exchange.
The deceased officer, identified as 44-year old Lee Tartt, was working for the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics but few other details have yet to be released.
Tartt was a 22-year police veteran and is survived by his wife and two children.
