Tampa police officers have not signed up to work security for an upcoming Beyoncé concert, causing some to question whether the singer’s controversial song Formation, considered anti-cop by many, has inspired the officers’ inaction.

On most occasions, off-duty police officers are hired to work security for concerts and other public events but in this case no one has signed up.

Tampa police spokesperson Steve Hegarty seemed unconcerned, saying, “We’re going to staff it because we have a responsibility to do that regardless of how controversial it might be, who the artist might be, or the politician might be.”

Although the concert is still months away, it remains to be seen if officers will sign up to work the event voluntarily or if the department will require officers to staff the event.
