A Las Vegas Metro police K9 is at home recovering after suffering multiple stab wounds to her head last week.

Metro K9 Nicky was sent into a home where a suspect was believed to be armed. Police had initially responded to the residence after receiving a call of gunfire at the Maryland Park Apartments.

When officers were unable to maintain communication with the suspect they decided to send Nicky in to apprehend the man.

The suspect suffered multiple dog bites but was able to stab Nicky in the head multiple times with a machete.

Nicky was transported to a local veterinarian for treatment and underwent surgery. She was released and is now recovering at home.

The suspect, 36-year old Tolavius Timmons, was booked on multiple charges including torturing, injuring or attempting to kill a police animal, among others. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
