A Riverdale (GA) police officer has died after being shot by a fleeing suspect. Major Gregory Barney’s death marks the 6th officer killed in the line of duty over the past two days across the United States.
Major Barney was assisting nearby Clayton County officers in the execution of a no-knock warrant when the unidentified suspect fled out the rear of the house.
It was there that the suspect encountered Major Barney and shot him in the abdomen and arm. Major Barney was not wearing a vest at the time of the shooting.
The suspect was also shot in the incident. He was transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.
Major Barney was transported to a local hospital for treatment but died of his injuries. He was a 19-year veteran of the Riverdale police department.
