A police K9 was stabbed to death and the suspect shot and killed just outside of Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon.
Officers from the Port Authority of Allegheny County attempted to contact two individuals drinking in public in Wilkinsburg when one of the individuals, identified as 37-year old Bruce Kelley Jr., began fighting with officers.
Kelley then took off on foot and when officers caught up with him they were unable to restrain him using a stun gun. That’s when a K9 officer released Aren, a four-year veteran K9.
Kelley allegedly stabbed Aren multiple times before being shot and killed by officers. Kelley died at the scene.
Aren was transported to a local veterinarian but died of his injuries. Aren is the 8th K9 to be killed in the line of duty this year.
