A Nassau County (FL) sheriff's deputy was killed this morning after he was struck by a car in what authorities are describing as a "tragic" accident.

Deputy Eric Oliver, 32, was in foot pursuit of a suspect that had been stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agent when the suspect ran across the A1A.

Deputy Oliver and another officer gave chase but Oliver was struck by a passing vehicle. Deputy Oliver died on scene.

The suspect who fled on foot is still outstanding.

Deputy Oliver was a 7-year veteran of the force and leaves behind a wife and 6-year old daughter.
