A Pennsylvania police officer was shot and killed, and another wounded, in what has been described as an "ambush" attack.

Canonsburg Police Officer Scott Leslie Bashioum was shot and killed as he and Officer James Saivea arrived to a domestic violence call early Thursday morning.

Officer Saivea was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition.

What ensued after the shooting was a six-hour standoff that culminated in the discovery of the suspect, identified as Michael Cwiklinski, deceased in his home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officer Bashioum had been with the department for 7 years and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
