Two Boston Police Officers Critical After Wednesday Shooting

Two Boson police officers were critically injured in a shootout with a suspect armed with an rifle Wednesday night. The suspect was killed in the incident.

The suspect, identified as Kirk Figueroa, 33, allegedly opened fire on officers as they responded to a call of a man with a gun.

Two officers, one a 28-year veteran and the other a 12-year veteran, were critically injured in the shooting before Figueroa was shot and killed.

The officers' conditions were described as "extremely critical."

Police Commissioner William Evans commended the officers swift actions in ending the threat. "I commend the officers. They moved in and neutralized the threat pretty quick (so) that no one else got killed," Evans said.

In total, 9 officers were treated for minor injuries or stress related to the event.
