Two in Custody After Shooting at Alabama Police Officer

Two men are in custody under suspicion of shooting at a Vestavia Hills, AL police officer and driving a stolen vehicle, police said.

The incident began early Friday morning after a police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that was reported stolen. The vehicle failed to pull over and officers began a brief chase of the car.

When the car did stop, the occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. One or several of the suspects opened fire on the pursuing officer. The officer was not struck by gunfire and did not return fire himself.

Two suspects were ultimately located and arrested along with a stolen handgun. It is unclear if a third suspect is still outstanding.
