A plain-clothes Boston police officer was shot and wounded after conducting a vehicle stop in the Dorchester neighborhood on Friday.
The suspect, identified as 27-year old Grant Headley, opened fire on the officer after his vehicle was pulled over. The officer, injured in the leg and severely bleeding, used a department-issued tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
Headley fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later. He is well known to local law enforcement and has a lengthy rap sheet.
The officer was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
