Police in Oklahoma City, OK shot and killed a home invasion suspect after the man tried to wrestle a gun away from an officer on Monday evening.
Officers had responded to the call of a burglary at the Crestpark Apartments when they learned that it was actually a home invasion, a more violent crime.
Officers spotted Rodney Turner, 22, walking through the complex and attempted to stop and speak to him because he matched the description of one of the suspects.
When police made contact with Turner he tried to grab an officer’s weapon, according to police.
Captain Paco Balderrama stated, “That's when the suspect actually grabbed the officer's weapon, he had a rifle that he was carrying, and engaged in a pretty violent struggle for the weapon.”
Balderrama continued, “The officer could see that the suspect was armed, and at some point he was able to disengage, pull his sidearm, and fire in the direction of the suspect.”
Turner fled after the altercation but was located a short time later suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics were called to the scene but he was pronounced dead prior to their arrival.
Tuner’s gun was located at the scene and four additional suspects are currently outstanding.
