Richmond, VA Officer Shot and Injured Following Brief Foot Pursuit

A Richmond, VA police officer was shot in the leg following a brief foot pursuit early Sunday morning.

The incident began at just after midnight when officers stopped to speak with a man standing in the area of Garland Avenue and Hooper Street. The unidentified man immediately took off running from the officers.

At some point during the foot pursuit the suspect turned and fired upon the officers, striking one in the leg. Officers returned fire, although it is unclear if the suspect was struck.

The suspect was eventually located and gun recovered after officers and K9’s searched the area.

The officer was transported to VCU Medical Center and is expected to recover.
