Two NYPD officers are recovering after an alleged drunk driver crashed into their patrol car, causing it to strike a tree and burst into flames.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning as two Staten Island officers were patrolling the area of Clifton when Jacqueline Perez, 23, ran a stop sign and plowed into the officer’s vehicle.
The patrol car spun out of the intersection and struck a tree, bursting into flames.
The officers were able to escape the fiery wreck and were taken to a local hospital where they are listed in stable condition.
Perez was subsequently arrested and booked on charges of two felony counts of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
