A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy has been shot multiple times and is in critical condition after attempting to serve a search warrant in New Orleans.

Deputy Stephen Arnold, 35, was shot five times as he made entry into a 9th Ward home where suspect Jarvis Hardy, 25, was located.

Hardy was taken into custody and subsequently charged with attempted first-degree murder and drug crimes.

Deputy Arnold had been working with a variety of federal law enforcement agencies in a sweep of drug raids throughout the area.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said that Deputy Arnold’s condition was still fluid and it was not yet known if he had suffered any neurological damage. “We’re praying, praying, praying,” Normand said.
