A federal agent gravely injured in an on-duty hit and run accident earlier in the month died from his injuries on Monday.

U.S. Homeland Security Investigations Agent Scott McGuire was struck by a passerby while trying to get into a cab in South Beach on January 15.

The alleged driver, Jordana Rosales, 21, fled the scene after the accident but was subsequently taken into custody.

Rosales subsequently posted a $100,000 bond and is currently under house arrest.

The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement that read, “Befitting his selfless nature, the special agent was an organ donor, and although we are immeasurably diminished by his death, we can at least take some small comfort in knowing that his final act gave others the chance to live. ICE asks that you join us in keeping his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
