A Norfolk, VA K9 was shot and killed during a multi-hour standoff with a barricaded suspect on Sunday evening, the second K9 officer to have been killed in the line of duty over the weekend.

K9 Krijger was shot by a barricaded man suspected of abduction, robbery, and multiple crimes involving a weapon.

The crimes stemmed from a domestic disturbance incident in which the suspect, 58-year old Keith Richardson, had taken his wife hostage.

After she was able to escape, Richardson barricaded himself inside of his house.

K9 Krijger was subsequently deployed to try and take Richardson into custody; however, he was shot by the suspect. The heroic K9 was taken to a local veterinarian but succumbed to his injuries.

Richardson was ultimately taken into custody by law enforcement.
