Arby's fires manager, disciplines clerk who refused to serve Florida police officer

Arby's fast food chain announced that it had fired the store manager and suspended a store clerk who allegedly refused to serve a Pembroke Pines (FL) police sergeant on Tuesday night.

Sergeant Jennifer Martin, 34, had pulled up to the payment window at the local Arby's and attempted to hand the clerk her credit card to pay for food she had just ordered. When clerk Kenneth Davenport, 19, allegedly refused to accept her credit card it prompted store manager Angel Mirabel, 22, to say, "He doesn’t want to serve you because you are a police officer."

Martin eventually received her food but returned it for a refund. The incident caused a social media stir and Arby's fast food rivals took action to capitalize on the bad press being heaped onto Arby's.

Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's, and Whole Foods reportedly provided local law enforcement with a variety of food items meant to show their appreciation for police.
