Virginia State Trooper dies in solo-vehicle crash while responding to assist another officer

Virginia State Trooper Nathan-Michael Smith, 27, was killed in a solo-vehicle crash while responding to the scene of an officer needing assistance on Monday. The accident occurred in Prince George County, south of Richmond. 

Trooper Smith's patrol car veered off of the freeway and struck several trees. He was removed from the car and airlifted to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

Trooper Smith had been with the Virginia State police for just over a year.
