An Ohio police officer is in serious but stable condition after being shot by a suspect on Sunday night.
Officers in Richmond Heights had responded to a call of a suicidal man at around 7 p.m. on Sunday evening.
When they arrived, they encountered the suspect, who was cooperative at first.
The man, identified as 46-year old Carlumandarlo Zaramo, agreed to be transported to a medical facility for a psychiatric evaluation. Zaramo asked to retrieve clothes before leaving.
Instead, Zaramo retrieved a handgun and shot one of the officers in the upper chest. The second officer on scene shot and killed Zaramo.
The injured officer, who was not wearing a ballistic vest, was transported to a local hospital. He is described as a 19-year veteran of the department.
It has been reported that Zaramo had been a doctor with the Cleveland Clinic; however, the Clinic would only state that he had not been an employee at the facility for over seven years.
