The funeral for fallen University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Police Officer Garrett Swasey took place today with a large crowd of mourners gathering to celebrate the life of the heroic police officer and pastor.
Officer Swasey was killed last week when a lone gunman opened fire at a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs.
Pam Shockley-Zalabak, Chancellor of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, praised Swasey and noted that his, “ability to work with students on the UCCS campus has created a lasting impact that is difficult to measure. Garrett will always be one of the best of the UCCS mountain lions.”
Swasey, 44, left behind a wife and two young children, aged 6 and 11.
Colorado governor John Hickenlooper spoke of Officer Swasey’s courage and told the fallen officer’s children, “Elijah and Faith, I can tell you from personal experience, I was between your ages when my father died. And I can tell you the times when I needed him most, he was there. I think you can count on him for that.”
