Police in Horry County, South Carolina arrested a man who had been on the lam for the past 30 years, the Associated Press reported today.
James Edward Coe, 71, escaped from a prison in North Carolina on June 23, 1986 and hadn’t been seen since.
He had been serving time for receiving stolen property and was originally slated to be released from prison in 1989.
Police in South Carolina were called to Coe’s attention after he was detained for suspicion of shoplifting at a local flea market in Surfside Beach. When police contacted him he revealed his true identity and was taken into custody.
