Violence did not take a break for the holidays as 2 people were killed and at least 8 others injured in shootings across Chicago since early Christmas morning.
Much of the violence was centered in the Austin neighborhood, where police responded to a call of a 22-year old man down with a gunshot wound to the head in the early morning. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Later that night, a 19-year old woman was shot in the back in the same neighborhood.
The violence continued throughout the day, totaling 2 dead and 8 wounded. Violence in Chicago, and elsewhere in the country, has been up sharply this year with shootings up 17% in Chicago through December 13.
