A Brooklyn Park, MN man is under arrest and charged with first-degree assault for a violent attack on a police officer Sunday morning.
Lance Carr, 25, is accused of assaulting the officer after police were called to investigate a noise complaint emanating from a parked vehicle.
When the officer discovered Carr, the only occupant of the vehicle, had a warrant for his arrest he attempted to place him into custody.
According to the complaint, Carr threw a punch at the officer and took him to the ground where he placed the officer in a chokehold and repeatedly struck him in the head with his fist and elbow.
At one point, Carr allegedly attempted to take the officer’s gun. The gun did, in fact, discharge; however, no one was struck.
Additional officers arrived and took Carr into custody. The officer who was assaulted, per reports, assisted in placing Carr into custody but collapsed soon afterward and had to be taken away on a stretcher.
