Suspected Robber Dead After Attempting to Rob Off-Duty Baltimore Police Officer

A suspected robber is dead after attempting to rob an off-duty Baltimore police officer in nearby Anne Arundel County.

The suspect, Edel Cato Moreland, 32, allegedly approached the off-duty officer near a home in Linthicum Heights.

When the suspect produced a realistic looking toy gun and tried to rob him, the 18-year veteran officer produced his service weapon and shot the suspect.

Moreland attempted to flee but "collapsed in the street a short distance from the location of the attempted robbery," a county police statement noted. He died on scene.

Baltimore's Special Investigation's Response Team and county homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.
