Colorado Police Search for Suspect Who Shot Officer on Vehicle Stop

The Commerce City Police Department (a suburban community north of Denver) is searching for a suspect who shot a police officer following a vehicle stop this morning. 

The suspect, described as a white male in his late 40's - early 50's, with brown hair, shot the officer once in the torso after the officer approached the vehicle.

The officer was saved from grave injury due to the protection of his bulletproof vest.

The suspect subsequently fled in his vehicle, described as a late 90's model maroon Nissan Pathfinder. The suspect's possible license plate was 679UNZ or 697UNZ (State of Colorado).
