A four year veteran of the Columbia, SC police department was killed in a car accident last night.
Officer Stacy Case, 37, was transported to a local hospital following a collision with another patrol vehicle; however, she was pronounced dead at 11:07 p.m.
She had been responding to a call of gunshots fired in the area.
Skip Holbrook, Columbia Chief of Police, stated, "There is nothing that can ever prepare you for a line-of-duty death. It shakes you to the core. Officer Case embodied what we expect from police officers; integrity, compassion, courage and a genuine commitment to serve. All of the CPD family is heartbroken.”
Officer Case had previously served for 15 years as a military police officer in the United States Army before joining the Columbia police department.
