Three in Custody After Kentucky Officer Shot, Gravely Injured

Three people are under arrest in connection with the shooting of a Richmond, KY police officer. The officer, struck in the head, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred after police responded to a call of a robbery at a local gas station. After receiving a description of the suspect, officers combed the area and were led to a nearby apartment building.

While searching one of the apartments, Officer Daniel Ellis was shot in the head and seriously injured. The alleged shooter, Raleigh Sizemore, had apparently been hiding in one of the rooms, armed with a gun.

Another officer on scene shot and wounded Sizemore, who was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Robert Purdy said, "There really aren't any words to try to put on what it's like to have a fellow colleague and somebody that you know and work with in a small community suffering from these kinds of injuries and being at the hospital."
