At least 17 people were injured in a wild shootout at a park in New Orleans on Sunday evening.
Hundreds of people had gathered at the Bunny Friend Playground in the city's 9th ward to celebrate a block party and music video shoot.
When an altercation broke out between two groups of people, gunfire ensued.
Multiple people were transported via ambulance to local hospitals.
New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu called on the public to help with the investigation. "It’s going to require the people who were in this park to basically say they’ve had enough and they’re not going to put themselves in harm’s way and give us information so that the police can do their job," the mayor said.
The violence comes amid a dramatic reduction in police resources in New Orleans. The city's police force has shrunk to under 1,200 officers while they should be staffed at closer to 1,600, per the WSJ.
