Robbery Suspect Shot After Stabbing Police K9 in Florida

A robbery suspect was shot and wounded after stabbing a man and police K9 dog in Titusville, Florida on Friday morning.

Zachary Joseph Penna, 24, was taken into custody following the shooing and transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was unknown.

The incident unfolded when officers were dispatched to a call of a robbery along a road near the Space Coast Regional Airport.

On scene, police located a contract worker who had been stabbed in what was determined to be an attempted robbery.

Officers searched the area and located Penna, who was armed with a knife. When he refused to drop his weapon a K9 was released toward him. Penna stabbed the K9 and an officer subsequently shot him. 

Even after being shot, Penna was allegedly still acting aggressively and had to be tased in order to be subdued.

Penna is said to also be wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in a nearby jurisdiction.

Both the K9 and robbery victim are expected to survive.
