The State of Texas is scheduled to execute convicted cop-killer Licho Escamilla at 6 pm local time on Wednesday evening. Escamilla was convicted of murdering Dallas police officer Christopher James in 2001.
James and two other officers were working an off-duty job as security for a nightclub when Escamilla, who was a patron at the club, became involved in an altercation with another individual. The officers approached the fight and Escamilla immediately opened fire on them, striking both.
The officers returned fire, wounding Escamilla, but he managed to flee the scene. Before leaving, however, Escamilla stopped over Officer James and fired multiple shots into his head, killing him.
Witnesses testified that Escamilla was laughing and bragging about killing the officer while he was being treated at a local hospital.
