Controversial NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick took to Twitter on Friday following the acquittal of Officer Jeronimo Yanez in the killing of Philando Castile and tweeted a picture that seemingly compared modern day law enforcement to fugitive slave patrols. 

The controversial tweet is the latest criticism of police offered by Kaepernick, who has made headlines over the past year for his contentious stance on law enforcement.

"Joker" Arrested in Miami for Allegedly Pointing Gun at Vehicles

CBS News reports that, "Just after 6:30 p.m., police received reports describing a man with facial tattoos and green hair — bearing a striking resemblance to the Joker in the Batman' movies — after allegedly pointing a gun at passing cars on a local street.

When an officer arrived he spotted 29-year-old Lawrence Sullivan, who fit the description, walking out the front gates of a nearby apartment complex."

"Community Member" Replaces "Suspect" on Seattle Police Use of Force Reports

The Seattle police department will apparently now be using the term "community member" on it's use-of-force reports rather than the previously used term "suspect."

Kevin Stuckey of the Seattle Police Officer's Guild told a local news outlet, "I think this is all in an effort to make sure our report writing sounds politically correct."

Texas Gov Signs Bill Outlawing Sanctuary Cities in Lone Star State

Governor Greg Abbott of the State of Texas has signed a bill that effectively outlaws "sanctuary cities" from the state of Texas.

"Let's face it, the reason why so many people come to America is because we are a nation of laws and Texas is doing its part to keep it that way," the governor said.

The legislation requires local law enforcement to comply with federal detainer requests and also allows local law enforcement to question the immigration status of individuals that they detain.

MA Officer Shot in Face, Expected to Survive

A Massachusetts police officer was shot in the face on Friday while dealing with a suspect who was hiding inside of a Motel 6 room.

Officers eventually entered the room and found the suspect dead.

The injured Braintree, MA officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Two Chicago Police Officers Shot, Wounded in "Targeted" Attack

Two Chicago police officers were shot and wounded in what was described as a "targeted" attack late Tuesday night. 

The officers were patrolling the city's South Side when one or possibly two vehicles pulled along the officers' vehicle and opened fire.

Witnesses described the sound of the gunfire as being consistent with an assault rifle. 

Both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment and are expected to survive.

NC Prison Officer Assaulted, Killed at Bertie Correctional Facility

A North Carolina Prison Sergeant was assaulted and killed while responding to a fire at the Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor on Wednesday.

Sergeant Meggan Callahan was allegedly assaulted and killed by inmate Craig Wissink.

Wissink has been serving a life sentence since 2004 for murder.

Sergeant Callahan was 29 years old and had served as a corrections officer since 2012.

BREAKING: Delaware State Trooper Shot and Killed; Suspect Barricaded in Home

BREAKING: A Delaware State Trooper has died after being shot in the parking lot of a Wawa store in the town of Bear earlier this afternoon.

Details of the shooting are forthcoming; however, the suspect is said to be barricaded inside his home.

Multiple Officers Injured After Responding to Mall Brawl

At least 5 police officers were injured - with one officer to possibly miss several weeks of work - after responding to a call of several teenagers fighting at the Southland Mall in Taylor, MI over the weekend.

After officers responded to the call for service, several teenage suspects allegedly turned on the officers and began fighting with them.
